Being a wedding photographer for over 16 wedding seasons has been an interesting experience. Trends come and trends go. It has always been my feelings to try not to be swayed by trends. If an image screams black and white to me that that is how I process it. If the vibrant colours are part of the story the images conveys that is how I present it. This is indeed one of the perks to processing my own images. I process each image on its own rather than relying on some filter or preset to convey the feel of our images.
Speaking of trends. These days there seems to be two main ways that a photographer presents their work. The almost mainstream trend in recent years has been images with washed out highlights and an almost flowered pastel feeling. Often you will see brides with flowers in their hair. You may often see this look on Instagram as it started through the use of camera phone filters.
If you look forward to some of the world's leading photographers you will see that this trend is passing and as of late the focus has shifted back to "authentic" photography with vibrant colours and deep rich tones.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, it certainly seems that my story-telling style images using vibrant colours and rich black and white tones has become the emerging trend! As a photographer that processes my own images I love that it gives me the choice to process each image "the way it speaks to me".
Speaking of a storytelling wedding, both Pam and I could not have asked for a better story than the blending of cultures that happened on when Kerrianne and Jarvis joined together in the sculpture garden at the Dalhousie arts centre!
The day started with a truly heartfelt ceremony containing elements from Mi'kmaq culture and the bride herself singing a traditional Irish song!
The first of two receptions was the day reception that even included dance lessons!
The fun continued to the park session! It is a true bonus when the bride and two of her brides maids are trained dancers. "ok on the count of three spin"
The night time reception was full of energy! Just when you think the day could not get any better our lovely bride whispers over that she has "surprise garter dance" for the groom to be performed by herself and her dancer friends including a drag queen..Hell, ya she did! I still smile from ear to ear when I think back to this wedding!
